"The Mathematics of Moving Interfaces: From Industrial Printers and Semiconductors to Medical Imaging and Foamy Fluids" by James Sethian. Sethian joined the Berkeley faculty in 1985, after studying at Princeton, Berkeley, and the Courant Institute of Mathematics. He is also the head of the Mathematics Department of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His work is in computational fluid mechanics and materials sciences, medical and biomedical image processing, and simulation and optimization of industrial manufacturing processes.
