Re: “Teachers Forced to Sign New Personal 'Morals' Code

As a student at one of these schools, on behalf of all of us I ask you to please sign our petition to have this pledge reformed. We really need the help. I know it takes time out of your day, but please consider what this means to us.

Re: “Teachers Forced to Sign New Personal 'Morals' Code

I also checked out your site. I like your message. I hope you have an idea of how amazing and impactful a female police chief would be. But this is a huge issue. Make sure you're not trying to solve problems just to wave your cause around.

To Mr. Liu: if your only answer to teachers losing jobs is for them to create their own, then reconsider your candidacy. This is YOUR community too. If you'd like, please check this out:

Re: “Teachers Forced to Sign New Personal 'Morals' Code

To Linda Forde: The problem with these laws is that they only appeared this year. teachers that had no problem with the code before now are being forced to make huge lifestyle changes to keep their jobs. This quote from SF Gate may help: "State and federal employment law offers little protection from being fired for violating church teaching - sparking fear that teachers could lose their jobs for using contraception, having premarital sex, trying to conceive a child by artificial insemination or marrying someone of the same sex."

If one of my teachers or wife of a teacher in unable to have children, then according to these laws she or he would not be able to try artificial insemination. A woman who would be an excellent mother would be unable to have a child. This is just way too personal. The Diocese isn't going to have to deal with many teachers leaving and students not wanting to be here, the schools will.

Re: “Teachers Forced to Sign New Personal 'Morals' Code

To Peter Yuan Liu: It matters because we have teachers who will all of a sudden be fired for their own beliefs. We get that they have the right to do this, but it is not right. Teachers could get fired for things that should really be their own choice, even if they've been teaching here for years. We're losing some of our best teachers at the end of this year because elf this. It is a Catholic school, and many of the teachers are Catholic, but the rules they will be required to follow are really, really strict.

Re: “Teachers Forced to Sign New Personal 'Morals' Code

I go to one of these schools, and let me tell you, it sucks. PLEASE do what you can to help us. I have a teacher in her 60's who will either lose the job she needs or be forced to conform to these laws. If you google the Oakland Diocese's website, their email is on the front page. You can even just copy and paste your comments and send those. We need the help.
