Anna Anthropy: "Rise of the Videogame Zinesters"

When: Wed., April 18, 7 p.m. 2012

They're not just for Dorito-scarfing frat boys or failure-to-launch basement-dwellers: No, video games have come into their own as a legitimate entertainment form, multibillion-dollar industry, and experimental training ground for the next generation of artists and programmers. As such, they've spawned an entire canon of books, blogs, and zines, which continue to multiplying rapidly. As a game designer, critic, and former editor of The Gamer's Quarter, Oaklander Anna Anthropy has been on the frontlines of the evolution of video games and their attendant media, all of which she discusses in Rise of the Video Game Zinesters, published last month and the subject of a lecture at Diesel (5433 College Ave., Oakland) on Wed. Apr. 18. 7 p.m., free. 510-653-9965 or DieselBookstore.com
