Andrew Ng

When: Wed., Sept. 26, 12 p.m. 2012

Last year, Stanford University did something unprecedented: It offered three free, online-only courses, with assignments and grades and all the typical markers of a college course. Stanford has always been a tech-forward school, and was one of the earlier adopters of online courseware, but even this was something of a gamble. More than 300,000 people signed up, and the project quickly became the grandest experiment yet in what's increasingly looking like the future model for education in a globalized world. On Wednesday, Sept. 26, one of the program's leaders, computer science professor Andrew Ng, will lead a discussion of that project and the university's continuing efforts in online education at Sutardja Dai Hall's Banatao Auditorium (UC Berkeley campus). Noon, free.510-643-4866 or
