Re: “A New Richmond Neighborhood

The NRMAC does not reflect or fully represent the entire North Richmond community. There is not a single Latino or Asian person on the NRMAC and their participation and membership has been minimal at best. Annexation is long over due and the former gatekeepers can no longer justify their positions other than to help the transition to the New North Richmond. The modicum of power they obtain from having an advisory position is not worth the community's potential for improvement by being part of the Richmond and not just another Contra Costa County step child.

Re: “Bay Area Might Adopt World’s First Regional Oil-Refinery Emissions Caps

Thank you Will for another important piece. Now with the document shredding scandal, how long will the board tolerate this type of behavior? Bunger and Broadbent must go!

Re: “Oakland Official Working on Coal Export Plan has Significant Investments in Fossil Fuels

In Benicia, ESA has been a disaster. This is because ESA has provided very suspect legal cover for pro-Valero council member who want to approve the Crude By Rail project despite heavy public opposition, both from benicians and others upand down the rails.

In particular, attorney Brad Hogin, has crafted a unique legal theory to say Benicia has no choice but to approve Valero's Crude By Rail project because of "indirect" pre-emption. Under his theory, local land use authority is irrelevant because if there is an even remote connection to the railroads, the authority to deny is pre-empted by federal regulation.

Of course, dozens of other lawyers, including Attorney General Kamala Harris, have said this is not supported by law. Unfortunately, the Valero 3, Council Members, Alan Schwartzman, Mark Hughes and Christina Strawbridge have shown their true loyalties lie with Valero and not the people of Benicia by voting for a ludicrous 11th hour request from Valero to seek a Declaratory Order from the federal Surface Transportation Board which has nothing to do with local land use authority if it does not involve rail companies.

Hey Oaktown, beware of ESA!!!

Re: “Community Activists Help Kill Big Oil Terminal in East Bay

Congratulations to all of the great people in Pittsburg who woke up this city and challenged what many felt was a fait accompli. This should be a warning to BAAQMD, Valero Benicia and Phillips 66 in Rodeo and San Luis Obispo that your dirty Extreme oil projects will not be tolerated in the Bay Area. Gracias to Jean Tepperman for recording these exciting developments in community power!

Re: “Richmond Councilman Gets Called on His Junk

This is the chickens coming home to roost moment for Corky Booze. Thanks to John Geluardi for the in-depth expose . Hopefully the information here will ensure that Booze is a one term council member. Booze’s hypocrisy and his political thug tactics are reminiscent of another important American hypocrite who experienced a melt down after exposure, Sen. Joseph McCarthy!

Booze’s bullying and intimidation in the community, always picking on smaller and weaker people, his sleazy tryst with Lori Reese Brown in the filthy little campaign office, abusing elderly people, particularly those who have worked for him, and his particularly close friendship with certain police officers, especially Andre Hill, should be enough to raise questions of fitness for office and preferential treatment from certain police officers.

Booze is the poster child for hypocrisy. He publicly berates Code Enforcement staff while being one of the city’s biggest code violators. He publicly berates the Office of Neighborhood Safety, who can claim part of the credit for Richmond’s major reduction in homicides, while opposing community based violence prevention strategies.

Booze rarely does his homework and uses valuable council meeting time for pointless inquisitions of staff and consultants on inane questions that are usually answered in the council packet.

Whenever Booze is called on his erratic and/or disruptive behavior, he pulls out the race card to try and convince gullible elements in the African American community that he is fighting on their behalf and these efforts to restore order to the Council meetings is part of some grand anti-Black conspiracy by “progressive white” folks. Of course, this is just a diversion strategy that fools no one except a hand full of pro-Chevron types in the audience.

Booze is an opportunist of the highest order. He got elected, after having run and lost ten times, by riding the anti-casino sentiment spearheaded by the Richmond Progressive Alliance and its allies. Once in office, he immediately turned his back on the Mayor and her allies on the council and got right into bed with Chevron, Richmond Sanitary, the Council of Industries and the other corporate heavies in town.

One and out – the saga of Corky Booze

Re: “Big Oil Targets Little Richmond, Again

John thanks for reminding us again about how it used to be and why Big Oil and Big Soda are spending obscene amounts of money to re-corrupt Richmond.

Make Chevron accountable to the PEOPLE of Richmond Elect Eduardo Martinez and Marilyn Langlois!!!

Stop Chevron's Killer Bs - Dump Mr. Chevron, Nat Bates and forget about Mr. Chevron II Gary Bell. Fortunately we don't have to worry about Bea Roberson, she is her own worst enemy. And young Jael is a feeble attempt by the Bates/Hancock/Skinner axis to thwart Progressive Democrats in Richmond like they are in Berkeley.
