Re: “Dona Spring Dies

Dona Spring was a heroic figure in Berkeley and I will miss her presence in city politics very much. Truly she was the conscience of the council. She stood strong for poor people and could be counted on to do what was morally right and to speak her truth no matter the time or place. It was amazing and humbling to witness her at the treesit just a couple of weeks ago speaking eloquently about why the protesters should be allowed access to food and water. There she was, wheelchair and all, leading a spontaneous march toward the UC police to demand humane treatment of the protesters. Of course we didn't always agree, but she was consistent and courageous in her views and activism. With respect and deep gratitude,
