Ana Tijoux & Locura

When: Wed., May 29, 9 p.m. 2019
Price: $30-$35
In 2006, Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux entered the big time in Latin-pop mainstream by rapping on Mexican singer Julieta Venegas’ infectious “Eres Para Mi.” The song shot up in the charts. It’s an easy-going song with light-hearted lyrics. Tijoux approaches the track in an almost conversational manner. This song may have exposed Tijoux to a larger audience, but it’s not really representative of her music. For one thing, she’s much more hip-hop-oriented, even though, musically, there’s lots more Latin elements than classic American hip-hop styles. But more importantly, Tijoux, is an immediate, and political rapper, sometime veering into personal trials and tribulations. As in your face as Tijoux can get, she’s also maintains an ease about here. Even when she’s rapping about Occupy Wall Street or the Chilean Student Movement, it never feels alienating. Though if you take the time with it, it will make you think.
