Re: “Yelp Extortion Allegations Stack Up

I don't find this article to be very insightful and find that there are some business owners who simply do not understand how Yelp reviews are generated. For the business owner who did not get why he would not get better reviews if he did not host a party - it's fairly simple, some people don't know about it, so they won't review it! If you host a Yelp party, word of mouth spreads and positive word of mouth will propagate.

With regards to businesses having multiple business listings, it is often when a business is not listed in the Yelp directory that a user will post the business information as a business and another user may not find it when searching and post another. I've had this happen before, and it is not for the sake of putting bad reviews on one listing and good on the other.

All of the complaints also seem to be from business owners who do not use / post on Yelp. It would be a simple process of acclimating themselves with using Yelp and they would understand how the social networking site works. It's easy to criticize and misinterpret when you are from the outside looking in.

Do I absolve Yelp of all accountability? Certainly not. Training salesforce on advanced ethics will allow them to ensure that the salesforce operates with the highest degree of ethical integrity. There is a miscommunication issue and it needs to be resolved.
