An Evening of Playback Theater

When: Sat., Nov. 10, 8 p.m. 2007
Price: $12-$18

Got a trauma? Watch it performed live onstage by strangers at the Laney College Theatre (900 Fallon St., Oakland), as the Living Arts Playback Theatre Ensemble presents its innovative blend of psychotherapy, living history, and improv. Volunteers selected from the audience share stories from their lives, which the actors then transform into playlets. The idea and the troupe were created twenty years ago by Oakland drama therapist Armand Volkas, whose experience as a Holocaust survivor's son impressed upon him the cathartic power of speaking pain aloud in public spaces. ($12-18 sliding-scale admission, $10 for students with ID.) 8 p.m.
