40,000 non-human animals are currently being exploited in the name of "science" at UC Berkeley. Check out the Stop Cal Vivisection website for more info:

Re: “UC Animal Rights Protests Getting Hairy

Wrong again, Chris. The bird research cited in the article is INCREDIBLY invasive. It involves immobilization. The animals are bolted down in stereotaxic devices, and have electrodes inserted into their brains for recording. Robert Sanders, who has compared animal rights activists to Al-Qaeda in the past would love for us to believe his lies. Why don't you check the research protocols and grants out before regurgitating a very biased, one-sided article. Oh wait, that would require a little work.

Re: “Cal Animal Rights Protesters Expand Targets

Most, if not all of the individuals involved in the campaign to end vivisection at Cal are vegan. They do not consume any animal product. One of the best ways to protest brutal treatment is to simply not give the industries your money.

That said, I don't know how cats with electrodes inserted into their brains, or primates bolted down in restraint chairs (we have all the documents to prove the research protocols) could ever qualify as "well-treated."

I also don't know how you could possibly call being the contractor of a 117 million dollar facility the "slightest infrastructural support." This statement is ridiculous, as is past East Bay Express coverage of the campaign.

Please check out the website for the campaign against UC Berkeley vivisection, where tens of thousands of animals are being tortured for thoretical research:

Re: “UC Goes After Animal Rights Activists

This bill is a slap in the face to free speech, but it's just proof that the legal home demonstrations we engage in around the East Bay are working.

40,000 animals are held captive and being tortured at UC Berkeley.

Check out the campaign website for more information:

Re: “Research and Destroy

What proof is the writer willing to offer that those who organized the January 5 protest were responsible for the incident of vandalism that you cite? Sounds like you're painting with a very broad brush. This article reeks of guilt by association.
