Re: “Stop Blaming Artists and Musicians for the Ghost Ship Fire. Blame People In Power Who Screwed Up.

Eroster: It seems this news source isn't interested in following up on such info, on the residents or lease-holders. Just the owners and city officials. As they said quite clearly: "This is how the Express will appropriate its investigative and news-gathering resources: by going after those with power."

Eroster: Yes. Yes. Yes, your diatribes and wild accusations are exactly that, because they are not backed by solid evidence. They distract from the hard facts that incriminate Mr Almena. Accusations backed by evidence vs accusations backed by wild guesses. Both may be true.

Thanks! I've contacted them.

Other particularly good arguments from Matthew Aaron Gerring and Mike Benedict. You going to follow up, Nick Miller / @nickmiller510 ?

BTW, Charles C. Eroster : wrong! https://www.google.com/search?q=here+here+vs+hear+hear

EBX's editor, @nicmiller510 really needs to read through the comments here, such as LJ Schneider and Nick Bolla's and consider revising their position.

The "low-income creatives" who ran Satya Yuga are primarily to blame for the 36 deaths that resulted. They're the ones who created the hazard. Certainly officials and the owner and his daughter bear some responsibility too. But the creatives were able to furnish and build the amazing art that was in that place; they certainly could have made a small effort to address safety too.

Re: “An Open Letter to Our Community, From the Former Residents of the Recently Closed LoBot Gallery in West Oakland

The Former LoBot Gallery Residents' friends at Ghost Ship / Satya Yuga are clearly guilty of manslaughter. The evidence in the press, and that I saw first hand, is overwhelming, as I see it.* That they say "To our friends at Ghost Ship: We are with you" is despicable. Shame!

Former residents: You explicitly ally yourself with people who hosted events that attracted large crowds to spaces that not only didn't come close to meeting the codes for assembly spaces, they didn't even come close to the much more lax codes for business or residential space - or even the codes for warehouse space, which are the most lax of all. Worse than that, you want to CONTINUE TO DO SO. Damn you. 36 dead isn't enough? Dead bodies are not art.

If you want folks not to call to have your space red tagged, don't say "We want our spaces retrofitted for modern fire-suppression systems, exits, and alarms." If you'd said, "We want a little time to retrofit our spaces with as much safety features as we can afford - modern fire-suppression systems if we can, but certainly sufficient well-marked exits, fire extinguishers and alarms." I'd be with you.

*Unmarked and locked exits, extremely unsafe electrical wiring, no working fire extinguishers or smoke detectors... There are numerous reports that the residents who ran Ghost Ship laughed at people who raised safety concerns.
