They dress like heshers, sound like a higher-octane version of Thin Lizzy, and party like punk rockers -- no wonder they're causing such a ruckus. While in some cases, the confluence of metal and punk influences might lead down the road to thrash (which is enjoying a nice little resurgence locally), in the case of Oakland's Annihilation Time, the result is something much rawer. Paying homage to '70s blues-rock, but with the energy and lyrical aesthetic of hardcore punk, the band operates under the m.o. of sex, substances, and destruction. Which means they'll either scare the crap out of you or prompt you to bust out the Jack Daniels -- to this band, probably either reaction isn't so bad. Annihilation Time opens for Amebix with Hellshock on Sunday, Jan. 25 at Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco). 8 p.m., $16. MusicHallSF.com
