‘All the Women in My Family Sing’

A slew of Bay Area natives, including Randi Bryant-Agenbroad, Meilan Carter-Gilkey, and Sridevi Ramanathan, contributed to All the Women in My Family Sing, a new anthology documenting the lives of women of color at the dawn of the 21st century. Apart from the 69 authors, the publisher, editor, book cover designer, and promoter are all women of color, too. Within the book, you’ll find essays and poetry telling stories from all over the world by women ages 16 to 77. Immigration, identity, self-worth, inequality, and survival are some of the themes that are explored — including a story of fleeing genocide in Cambodia. At a time when women’s rights are still being called into question, All the Women in My Family Sing aims to provide hope through healing. In Oakland, editor Deborah Santana will be joined by local contributors for a reading and author signing.
