Re: “Berkeley Bowl Turns Down Union — Again

Wow! the pro-oligarchy anti-worker right wing really has put alot into this discussion. Anyone who has worked a job with a large labor pool, even highly skilled such as instruction, should have an understanding that the employer is going to try to low-ball their new hires, try to overwork if possible, and why shouldn't he? Union representation of academic workers didn't come out of nowhere. Grad students had to fight for collective bargaining, which has substantially benefit them. Some students think they can do better and secure a better deal by personal negotiation. To that I wish them good luck at not getting laughed at by the UC (or whatever) administration. Those such students probably read too much Ayn Rand. Its always in the grad students best interest to work hard and stay on good terms with the supervising professors even if they are covered in a contract. However they are protected from being overworked, which is in the professor's interest.

Why shouldn't the same go for grocery store employees?

Re: “A Ban on Sitting?

Sounds good to me. There is still people's park to hang out and sit in.
