Alela Diane and Dylan Leblanc

When: Thu., June 30, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $ 15

A self-described homebody, Portlandian Alela Diane is venturing to Oakland this week. Not that she won't be surrounded by family; her husband Tom Bevitori and father Tom Menig both perform in her backup band, contributing to Diane's new fuller folk-rock sound. And the electric additions work well. Diane's newest album, Alela Diane & Wild Divine, released in March of this year, is a lush collection of heartbreaking songs. With lyrics such as death is a hard act to follow on "The Wind," anyone can sense Diane's resolve to stay rooted despite turmoil. In addition to newer repertoire, Diane will hopefully take to the acoustic guitar, performing older pieces like "Oh! My Mama," which hints at her roots in Nevada City, where life is filled with antiques, feathers, and nurturing parents. But Diane can't return home quite yet; she'll be touring the Midwest with Fleet Foxes in July. At The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland) on Thursday, June 30. 8 p.m., $15.
