Re: “Albany: A Seething Caldron of Lust?

I attended Albany Middle School in the early 1980's. Although I never took a class with Ms. Sorg, I remember her as an eccentric and kind teacher who treated her students with great respect and a healthy dose of humor. I have been teaching in California public schools for over a decade and understand a few things about teenagers and how schools function. Some of Kay Sorg's colleagues likely know the veracity of the allegations. Some of the accuser's classmates are probably closer to the truth than anyone writing on this site. Teachers talk. Teenagers talk. At a school as small and tight-knit as Albany Middle School, everyone has a pretty good bead on everyone else. Still, only Kay and the accuser know what really happened, and, human nature being what it is, their accounts won't be identical even if they are talking about the same relationship. Everything else is speculation, much of which does grave damage. That the courts will ferret out the truth is our only hope, albeit a paltry one given the nature of the justice system. The best the rest of us can do is to admit our utter ignorance and do as little damage as possible to either the accused or the accuser by dampening our desire for vengeance against either party.
