Alan Senauke

When: Sun., Feb. 13, 3 p.m. 2011

A collection of photographs, essays, and observations produced over the past few decades from troubled outposts all over the world, The Bodhisattva's Embrace: Dispatches from Engaged Buddhism's Front Lines is a milestone in the long career of Alan Senauke, vice-abbot of the Berkeley Zen Center, where he lives with his wife and two children. At Diesel Bookstore (5433 College Ave., Oakland) on Sunday, Feb. 13, Soto Zen priest Senauke discusses his life and his work and offers insights into the ways in which we can incorporate Buddhist precepts in modern urban life to fight injustice and help others. 3 p.m., free.
