Alameda Man New NAACP President

Well, this is exciting. The Oakland Tribune reports that Alameda resident Benjamin Jealous has been appointed the new president of the NAACP. And he's not just a local fella, but at age 35 he happens to be the youngest president in the history of the organization. Jealous has been a community organizer for all of his professional life, starting with the NAACP and moving on to Amnesty International; he now heads the Rosenberg Foundation. The choice of Jealous was a break from the NAACP's tradition of appointing older, more established figures, and may reflect the group's need to connect to younger people and revitalize its membership.
