AileyCamp Finale: Infinite Possibilities

When: Thu., Aug. 2, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: free
Young people’s horizons are vast, and Cal Performances’ annual AileyCamp aims to make sure that every local kid knows it. The program offers tuition-free dance training and communications workshops to dozens of underserved middle-schoolers, even providing transportation, meals, and dance gear. After six weeks of the camp’s rigorous learning and collaboration, the graduates emerge more mature, self-confident, and hopeful for the future. They’re also ready to put on a show, which is always one of the most fun, heartfelt, and inspiring performances of the year. Titled, appropriately enough, “Infinite Possibilities,” the ninety-minute mix of modern dance, Ailey classics, African dance, ballet, and more takes place on Thursday, Aug. 2, at Zellerbach Hall (Bancroft Way and Dana St. Berkeley). 7 p.m., free. 510-642-9988 or CalPerformances.org
