Re: “Years in the Making, Mandela Foods Cooperative Still a Secret

What about the job creation? From what I gather in this article and other sources at least $530,000 dollars has been invested into this coop to create just eight jobs. It cost over $66K to create each job. Granted some food is also being made available, but shouldn't we be more efficient about how we invest in job creation. Other stores are able to create a job for $20,000 or less in initial investment. Is Mandela going to hire more people?

Re: “Gardening Eden

To the previous comment: How is it that the way migrant workers (who are people of color) were relegated to sub minimum wage jobs that forced them to live in substandard living conditions not racism? The very fact that of the kinds of jobs they could have, and the low-income status they were forced into by those employment options, is a clear aspect of structural racism. And the author of the article is correct that housing policies, such as covenants between home owners associations, realtors and bankers to keep people of color out of white suburbs, resulted in the concentration of people of color in impoverished urban areas. One should educate themselves about the true history before speaking.
