Comedy drama
When a bored middle-class Los Angeles housewife (Kathryn Hahn), intrigued by the wild side of life, brings home a sex worker (Juno Temple) as a live-in nanny, we’d expect a reasonable amount of hanky-panky, especially when the wife’s restless husband (Josh Radnor) is factored in. But writer-director Jill Soloway, a TV sitcom vet, tries hard to avoid clichés. She also gets first-rate perfs from all concerned, particularly Hahn and Temple -- backed up by a squad of nervous females led by Michaela Watkins, Annie Mumolo, Jessica St. Clair, and the indefatigable Jane Lynch, as a needy shrink. This sort of movie is why “indie” was invented (99 min.).
