After the Killing, What's Left?

As reported in this week's Express, a blog called Oakland Makeshift Memorials 2007 is tracking the city's homicide victims this year (at 80 as of August 9) by posting photos of the scene of the crime, and often, the makeshift memorials that follow. Some sites - like the one for 21-year-old Kikhiesha Brooks at 59th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way (see photo) -- contain flowers, photos, and cards, while others leave no trace of a crime whatsoever. The blog also links to articles about the individual killings, and a map showing the location of the homicides thus far.
