Afrolicious Seven-Year Anniversary Party

When: Thu., June 5, 9 p.m. and Fri., June 6, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $15
After a seven-year residency at the Elbo Room (647 Valencia St., San Francisco), the dudes behind San Francisco’s funkiest weekly party are calling it quits. Afrolicious was started by DJs (and brothers) Pleasuremaker and Señor Oz, who wanted to create a party where they could spin disco, funk, dub, electro, soul, Latin-, African-, and Brazilian-inspired tracks alongside live performances by percussionists, MCs, and horn players. In 2010, the brothers began incorporating their own original music into the mix, while the Afrolicious band swelled to eight to twelve members (including vocalists). Later this month, the group will release a remixed version of its 2013 debut album, California Dreaming, and embark on a summer tour. Meanwhile, it will throw its final Elbo Room parties on Thursday and Friday.
