People of African descent have figured prominently in California history from the earliest days of Spanish colonization to the war for Mexican independence to statehood. Longtime residents and newcomers can benefit from learning about the historical contributions of African American pioneers, from the windswept bluffs of Fort Bragg to the Julian Hotel in San Diego County—listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the “oldest continuously operated hotel in Southern California Lecture given by Rick Moss.
