African American Celebration Through Poetry

First declared in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson to honor African-American achievements, Black History Month coincides with the February birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Writers of all ages -- especially new and budding writers -- are invited to share their work at the 19th annual African American Celebration Through Poetry in the Oakland Library's West Oakland branch (1801 Adeline St., Oakland) on Saturday, Feb. 7. 1 p.m.
