Afiara String Quartet

When: Tue., Feb. 2, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $12.50-$25

The bio for the Afiara String Quartet sure is enticing. Winners of the 2008 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the Canadian ensemble was in residence at San FranciscoState for two years and now holds the JuilliardSchool's Graduate Resident Arnhold Fellowship. The program is a winner, mixing Mozart's String Quartet No. 19 in C major, K. 465 "Dissonance" and Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13 with Alban Berg's twelve-tone "Lyric Suite." And given that the concert is Tuesday night, you can also catch the Lamplighters' fabulous Gilbert & Sullivan Patience at the Lesher on the weekend. At the BerkeleyCity Club (2315 Durant Ave., Berkeley) on Tuesday, Feb. 2. 8 p.m., $25. 510-848-7800 or BerkeleyChamberPerform.org
