An ‘80s nostalgia movie that actually looks like a movie made in the ‘80s. James, a college grad with no particular prospects (Jesse Eisenberg), takes a summer job at the titular amusement park in his hometown of Pittsburgh — partly in an effort to remedy his virginity. The plan works. The pic’s main selling points are its amiable, true-to-life characters: the prankster (Matt Bush), the local intellectual (Martin Starr), a Madonna lookalike (Margarita Levieva), and James’ one true love, Em (Kristen Stewart from Twilight). Has all the attributes of American Graffiti, but run through a John Hughes kaleidoscope. Writer-director Greg Mottola’s dialogue is a standout (107 min.).
