Action, Thriller
Once we get past the filmmakers’ disclaimer and the obligatory scenes of hometown family life, this actioner based on the exploits of Navy SEALs is a crackling good adventure, filled with realistic violence and derring-do. Just don’t go too deeply into the politics of the team’s campaign against the nefarious “world-wide jihadists” attempting to sneak into the US, or the film’s cartoonish depiction of the bad guys. Such questions are outside the scope of filmmakers Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh’s worshipful depiction of America’s military superheroes, as framed by screenwriter Kurt Johnstad (300). Better to relax, clutch your popcorn tub tightly, and let the guardians of the free world kill for peace. That’s their job, and they’re obviously good at it. If the whole thing resembles a recruitment ad, maybe that’s because directors McCoy and Waugh made commercials for the Navy. The cast is billed as active-duty SEALs. Spoiler: The good guys win. (105 min.)
