Re: “Yelp Extortion Allegations Stack Up

I'm so glad to see this article. I have a small business and had experiences similar to others posted here. My sales person was friendly but did mention that negative reviews (if some got posted) could be 'moved/tagged', if the person wasn't a Yelper - defined as someone who posts lots of reviews. Also, if reviews disappeared, it could be because the reviewer had chosen to cancel their Yelp account. And, a cancelled/closed Yelp account, erases all reviews associated with that reviewer.

I advertised for a short time-period to test out Yelp. After the initial test period, I declined to continue advertising. All of a sudden, I had a few negative reviews (by reviewers which happened to (coincidently) give my local competition across the street - who is a Yelp advertiser - great reviews). So, I asked my loyal customers to post positive reviews about us, which they did, but they keep magically disappearing....even though their Yelp accounts have not been closed.

Everyone can come to their own opinion about Yelp, but the small business owners I know, including myself, feel this company is unethical.
