A Tribe Called Red

When: Wed., July 17, 8 p.m. 2019
A Tribe Called Red is a DJ duo from Ottawa, Canada. It created a new sound in Native music by mixing traditional pow wow drumming and round dance songs with the beats of dancehall reggae, hip-hop, and electronica. The members introduced their music at the monthly Electric Pow Wow series they hosted at Babylon, a club in their hometown. After a six-year run playing to a crowd that included people of all ages and cultural backgrounds, many hearing Native music for the first time, they produced a self titled debut and gave it away free on their website — On the duo’s latest album, We Are The Halluci Nation, they continue exploring a global vision with contributions from Australian Aboriginal band OKA, Swedish/Sami singer Maxida Marak, Yaslin Bey (AKA Mos Def), Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq, Columbian/Canadian singer and songwriter Lido Pimienta, and Native-American activist John Trudell.
