A Swingin' Holiday

When: Fri., Nov. 16, 8 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 17, 2 & 8 p.m. 2012

The festive season kicks off on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17, when Diablo Ballet launches its first-ever holiday show. The mixed program at the Lesher Center (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek) is actually a hybrid that starts out with non-holiday fare: Lento a Tempe a Appassionato, a dramatic duet choreographed by Vicente Nebrada of Ballet Nacional de Caracas and accompanied by live music composed by Alexander Scriabin, and The Moor's Pavane, an interpretation of Othello by modern-dance legend Jose Limón. The mistletoe comes out after intermission with A Swingin' Holiday, created by Broadway choreographer and former Houston Ballet principal Sean Kelly to a suite of holiday hits and swing tunes played by a sixteen-piece live band. After the Saturday matinee, meet and greet the dancers in the lobby. Fri. 8 p.m., Sat. 2 and 8 p.m.; $26-$52. 925-943-7469 or
