Comedy, Western
Bawdy, naughty-mouthed cowboy-movie parody goes places Mel Brooks and the Farrelly brothers never dared. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll split yer britches laughing, but there a few guffaws, especially when baby-faced Seth MacFarlane – in the role of a chicken-hearted sheep rancher named Albert – goes into his routine. The antics of Sarah Silverman (as a saloon hooker), Neil Patrick Harris (a mustachioed fop), and Giovanni Ribisi (the town’s other wimp) are also reliably funny. Filling out the straight roles are Charlize Theron as a glamorous sharp-shooting outlaw, Liam Neeson as the villain, and Amanda Seyfried as Albert’s unfaithful girlfriend. Would you believe Gilbert Gottfried in cameo as Abraham Lincoln? Produced and directed by MacFarlane, from a screenplay he wrote with his Ted collaborators Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild (116 min.).
