Dysfunctional family drama has a few plusses — especially the playing of Mathieu Amalric as the black sheep, Henri — but in the end boils down to a bitter, overlong actors’ picnic set in the Northern France city of Roubaix, where matriarch Catherine Deneuve makes everyone feel guilty that leukemia seems to run in the family. Actors Amalric, Emmanuelle Devos, Melvil Poupaud, Chiara Mastroianni, and Laurent Capelluto do what they can with director Arnaud Desplechin’s screenplay (written with Emmanuel Bourdieu), but the net effect of watching this is to feel like you’ve lost a pint of blood yourself. Nice sound engineering, though (150 min.).
