Re: “Smart & Final’s Old Oakland Location Closes

Can't be condos, it's a historic block so not much can be changed. I am not sure what they are planning to do, but Pac Coast has been empty for over a year, so they aren't exactly rolling over these big spaces

Re: “Proposal to Build a Vast BART Surveillance System to Be Decided at Suburban 'East of the Hills' Board Meeting Next Month

If this article's author thinks that a ban on panhandling inside the paid area of the stations is controversial (spoiler alter, if they are panhandling they probably didn't pay for a ticket to be in the area to begin with), then there's not a lot BART leadership (as bad as they are) could do to please said author.

Re: “Opinion: Why Building Housing Near Mass Transit Promotes Collectivism

There are so many incredible inaccuracies in this. I understand it's opinion, but would be nice for the EBT to do some basic fact checking and not publicize fake news.

1) One way streets are significantly safer than 2 way streets for pedestrians

2) The goal of home ownership was not to fight communism, it was to keep the economy running as it was coming out of the great depression and 100s of thousands of troops with no skills coming home needed jobs, building roads, houses, etc was something they could easily do.

3) Simply living in an apartment is not a form of socialism, as all the regulations are set by a landlord not the community at whole, or any other construct

4) It's not illegal to build more than 1-2 units on a lot in Rockridge, it's zoned the same as west oakland residental streets, Frutvale residential streets, or East Oakland. The main streets can be built more dense than the residential streets, which is sound theory. If you want height limit changes around the main streets such as college or clairmont, that's a different story, one i'm all for.

Some basic research for articles would make this a lot more thoughtful in the support of 827

And you guys are going to be shocked what actually happens when 827 goes full force, all those west oakland developments being held up by the city so they don't gentrify the area so fast, all approved, with the city having minimal say on any part of it.

Re: “Smart Growth Housing Bill Is a Game-Changer

I support SB827, but this article is hilariously inaccurate. Rockridge is the ONLY residential BART stop in Oakland that is primarily white. Attempting to use it as an example while ignoring the other ramifications is sad.

Lake Merritt (Asian), Frutivale (Hispanic) and Macarthur/98th/West Oaklnd(Black) will also be signficantly effected by the bill, with Lake Meritt and Fruitvale signficantly more than Rockridge, as there's very little space to build in Rockridge, and the idea of trying to buy an expensive property to knock down to build middle class apartments is basically a non-starter. Both Fruitvale and Lake Merritt will see rapid gentrification as a result of this bill, because the housing will be high end housing, and in high demand because of it's transit orientation.

Remember how upset people were with the towers being build by MacArthur? Now watch that go to every other minority centric BART stop, plus the BRT lines (people are hugely upset about the gentrification those are bringing)

It will help the environment, but it's certainly not going to do anything to end the issues that Oakland faces.

Re: “Former Tennis Pro Says East Bay Landlord Michael Marr Was Major Player in Scheme to Rig Foreclosure Auctions

So Glad he's finally being charged. Illegally evicted me, lied in court. This man deserves to rot in hell
