Re: “The Trouble With Cannabis Vapes

Wow!!! Acute lethal lung disease sounds, well, kind of bad. We won't know for 20 years what the long-term chronic problems will be. These are hugely popular products with teens, who want a no smell high at home or school. Maybe we should put down the pot a minute; instead of inventing new ingestion routes and waiting for new diseases and disorders. This industry is experimenting on teens; we wouldn't let big pharma act this way.

Re: “State's Deadliest Big Jail System Last Year was Contra Costa County's

Thank you so much for this piece ! This is shameful and upsetting. Clearly there is a huge lack of management, oversight and accountability in the Contra Costa County Sheriff's office. There also seems to be a larger trend that all local Sheriff's offices lack transparency and accountability.

The above comment by the Jimmy Lee, Public Information Officer for the Contra Costa Sheriffs Office, shows a shocking lack of compassion or remorse for those who have died in the care of the Sheriff. Clearly, they have no no sincere plan to address these human tragedies and create a facility where actual rehabilitation occurs and basic human decency is an institutional standard.

Re: “Lieutenant on Leave After Use of Restraints Leads to Death in Santa Rita Jail

This is a disgrace, gross mismanagement, incompetent leadership, torture and meanness. Why does Sheriff Ahern still have a job?

Re: “Tuesday’s Briefing: PG&E recently identified 10,000 problems with its equipment; Kamala Harris raised nearly $12 million last quarter

East Bay Express has no coverage of unsheltered encampment evictions in progress at 85th and Edes and planned eviction /dispersal of Home Depot encampment.

SF Professor Tony Sparks recent research, Reproducing Disorder-The Effects of Broken Window Policing on Homeless People with Mental Illness, in the Journal of Social Justice seems very appropriate for the EBX.

Re: “Opinion: Why We, As Black Oaklanders, Are Voting for Libby Schaaf

Wow ! now the the East Bay Express posts pandering political adds produced by a political employees. took down Libby's thinly disguised campaign adds; EBX l now has less editorial integrity than a tech start-up.

A word to Team Libby. Libby comes from the Oakland Hills and Schools which have always been white and privileged and afraid of the Brown and Black areas of Oakland. She was elected to City Council and as Mayor with 2 "Public Safety" pro-OPD, racist "dog whistle" campaigns. Charter school advocates funded her first run, and she was a founding Board Member of Lighthouse Charter School. Oakland Police Department, their union, the Port and the Democratic real-estate development machine have also funded Libby, and she has backed them all the way to the bank. OPD got the fattest police contract ever signed shortly after her mayoral election. LIbby leaves no lobby behind- she can be bought, but poor Black and Brown people can't afford her, so their communities have been destroyed by her leadership.

We need a leader; not a compromised machine politician -vote Cat Brooks for Mayor! Libby's best isn't near good enough!

Re: “Oakland City Council Candidate Chris Young Suspended by State Bar

Annie Campbell Washington was the Charter School, OPD, Chamber, and Real Estate candidate. It took great patience to persuade her that racial profiling was a problem in her district. She will support the candidate who will stay the course on her bought and paid for pro-development, pro-police, pro-charter, and pro-chamber positions.
