Re: “A People-Focused Solution

David Yusem is the OUSD Restorative Justice Coordinator. Currently, he is designing and implementing trainings throughout the district for employees interested in gaining RJ skills. In partnership with David, there is also a Peer Restorative Justice program (with half-time funding from OFCY - Oakland Fund for Children and Youth) operating in a small number of middle schools. The Peer RJ Program is what is at Montera (the first story in the article). In addition, there are also non-profit groups including Community Works, SEEDS Community Resolution Center, and RJOY (Restorative Justice Oakland Youth) who are also helping to bring restorative justice to the district.

Regarding donations, I would propose reaching out to David Yusem first and talking with him about how to make donations towards RJ in OUSD or otherwise get involved. Secondly, if there are specific schools you are interested in supporting, reach out to the Principal of the school as well as the Parent Teacher Organization or Association.
