Re: “Knowland Park Advocates Launch Referendum to Block Oakland Zoo Expansion

This project embodies poor stewardship of public lands, closed government, and big-business cronyism. It is the opposite of conservation, lacking even the most rudimentary consideration of environmental consequences. No impact study was done, and not one environmental organization favors it.

Re: “Zoo Gone Wild

Shame on Joel Parrott and his followers for this ugly, unnecessary exercise in empire-building! Keep The Park open, wild, and free!

Re: “Join the Friends of Knowland Park Earth Day Rally!

Special guests Country Joe McDonald, and Hali Hammer and Randy Berge will provide entertainment, and lend their support to saving Knowland Park from the Oakland Zoo's destructive plan to "develop" the open space into a theme park for paying customers.

Re: “Oakland Zoo Campaign Spending Tops $800,000

This is an indication of how far the EBZO and Zoo management have fallen into the pit of ego and empire building. The Zoo is a wonderful place, but it really needs new management, people with morals and principals in keeping with modern thinking about environmental stewardship, wildlife preservation, and land protection. Vote NO on A1, and tell the City Council to break the management contract with EBZS for cause, oust their Board of Directors, and replace the Zoo management. Oakland is too Great a City to allow such corruption and malfeasance to go on any longer!

Re: “Oakland Zoo Operators Violate Election Laws

The Zoo and East Bay Zoological Society have long resisted detailed fiscal oversight, and even thought open books and periodic financial reports are mandated by the management contract EBSZ has with the CIty of Oakland, the City does not enforce it, and the Zoo does not volunteer the information. SUch strict oversight is long overdue. Tune it to KQED's Forum, on Monday, Oct. 22, at 9:30 AM, and hear what they have to say about this.
