Re: “Yelp and the Business of Extortion 2.0

There is another company that follows a somewhat similar extortion/shakedown model as Yelp. creates a network of directory sites that publishes incorrect information about local businesses - wrong address, wrong contact info, phone number and so on. The only way to get the information corrected is to pay to become a client of Yext - the information cannot be corrected directly by the business owner without paying Yext to get access to the listings on the dummy directory websites they control. The salespeople for Yext use high pressure tactics to push business owners to pay for updates to their listings. It's another scam like Yelp, pure and simple. This dishonest business model seems to be spreading in the Internet world.

Re: “Yelp and the Business of Extortion 2.0

I've also had the experience of all positive reviews for my business being filtered out and only negative reviews (that I determined to be fake) being displayed after I refused repeated offers of paid advertising from Yelp representatives. After reading this article and the comments here, I have also filed a complaint against Yelp with the BBB.
