Re: “Vast New Bay Area Bike-Share Program Is Everywhere ... Except Deep East Oakland

OK let's get out idealistic heads out of the utopian clouds. I grew up in East Oakland... Ain't nobody paying $3.00 a trip for a bike ride or $10 for a day pass... I'm a bike rider an I can afford it and have all the technology needed to take advantage of this program and I wouldn't. Maybe NEW people to the Deep East... NOT the folks I know and know of. This may elicit a gasp from some of you. Some of you may spout some hotepness salt my way... but YOU KNOW I'm not lyin.

Re: “AC Transit to Cancel Supplemental OUSD School Bus Routes

One thing conveniently left out of this article is that I believe there is still REGULAR service serving these schools. SUPPLEMENTAL service merely means that an extra run or two was added just for the students... a GOOD thing. HOWEVER, students would STILL be able to take the bus the school... just as I and many other OUSD students have done for decades.

Re: “Uber Not Coming To Oakland After All?

How is the gig economy rubbish ? As a second job (not Uber or Lyft ride sharing), the "gig economy" EASILY, without much of a sweat puts an extra $400-$500 a week in my pocket. I know what I got into and am ABSOLUTELY satisfied with the arrangement.

Re: “The Veg Hub in Oakland Cooks Fake Meat for the People

@ Andrew really ? because one of the former Pastors of the Grand Avenue Seventh-Adventist Church- who if I recall (I could be wrong) was instrumental in bringing such a restaurant to Oakland ( I recall talk about it a few years ago)- risked his ENTIRE career with a sermon about loving EVERYONE- including those in the gay community. Point-- Generalization ? Yes there are some- maybe many who are not as "progressive" in their religiosity. Some if not many ARE. You can have your beliefs based on your faith AND still love your brother and not JUDGE them on their lifestyle choice. It's not THAT difficult. My belief in scientific theories does NOT negate MY faith. Sure... some may not believe what I believe but it has NO bearing on MY relationship with God. I'm not a vegetarian- but I look forward to trying something outside of my comfort zone if it's as good as the reviewer says it is. :)……

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

"...Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building..."

And ??? so ??? I'm glad that they're below market rate included- regardless of where they are.

I see NO problem with allowing those who are paying market rate to have the choice of the lot.

While nice, why MUST a developer contribute all of those "community benefit" projects. Heck... isn't the Mosswood center a city owned property. It's stipulations like this that has made it so difficult for things to get off the ground here in The 'Town

@Charlie Pine... I think the video you are referring to was filmed on a closed lot at the old 7th Street Train station.

Re: “As People of Color Disappear from Oakland, So Do My Memories

At Red... I'm not mad at "New Oakland". I love the energy in what ya'll call Uptown (LOL) et al. I chuckle at your comparisons to Brooklyn SMH. Oakland has always had a chip on her shoulder and would NEVER, EVER compare her self to another burg. However, What I DON'T like is that I'm looked down in disdain by someone newly arrived in the place where I grew up. I've lived or gone to school in just every part of Oakland from Elmhurst to Rockridge and in between in San Antonio, Grand Lake/ Trestle Glen, Laurel and others places in between. It amazes me that I get looks of disdain and fear as I walk down the many streets I've always walked down. Look. Change happens. I'm not mad at tech companies or what not. Just respect people. I and many of us were here when Oakland was an after thought. We volunteered to make the place better. Now others have gotten wind of her beauty. That's OK- just don't shut us out. If I come to patronize your Hipsterized taco spot cause I happen to be in the area, don't look down on me. I was going to drop major bread for a few tacos ($4 for ONE taco !!), but you made me feel so unwelcomed- ahem Xolo. This is not exclusive. This happens all over Oakland. This is unimaginable to me. So Red it's not the resentment of "New Oakland" in itself, it's the smug audacity they demonstrate in the way they treat folks who've been here for many decades.
