Re: “Oakland's Toxic Lead Contamination Isn't in the Water. It's in the Buildings and Dirt, and It's Bad.

Ed Garrett- the EPA says that "Unleaded" fuel contains very little lead (5/100th of a gram per ??), but it still contains some. Diesel fuel, which is what Gary Patton was referring to contains more lead than unleaded.

Re: “Oakland Housing Rights Activists Face 8.5 Years in Prison

Correction: he was a seargeant. He was known for leading a garrison to go kill indigenous people.

From wikipedia:

"he led the full garrison from the fort at San Francisco into the San Joaquin Valley in pursuit of the Indians." Surprising the Indians in their village, Peralta won a swift victory, which enhanced his reputation."

Chantok Nok- I agree with your basic premise, that the land in Oakland was squatted. But it was squatted by Peralta and the Spanish government who took it from the indigenous people of the area. Peralta wasn't exactly POC and didn't see himself as such. He was a retired Spanish Army (European) general who was awarded the land by Spain.

Re: “An Oakland-Grown Music Festival

Downtown IS a commercial district. This is the type of thing that happens in an area designated for music and food. The area has flaunted it's closeness to bars, music, food, and people as it's draw since before the actual condos were there.

Re: “Out of the Tents and Into the Chambers

Marleen Lee- please read the article closely. The door was not "pryed off it's hinges." One of the hinges was removed. That is not "damage". Hinges can be removed and replaced. If it actually happened, that would just mean a bolt was taken out. It says separately that people "attempted to pry the door open". If you look at the video, you can see how benign that actually was. Some folks tried to open the door with their hands, is all.
