Re: “East Bay Affordable Housing Disappearing Faster Than Anywhere in Country

Oh! I was confused all the way through the article thinking it was talking about section 8 type housing until Trulia's definition at the end.

Re: “NRA Says It Will Sue Oakland Over New Gun Laws

They first have to find an Oakland resident to agree to join their lawsuit. The resident's name will be public along with their address.

Re: “Austerity's Champion

The progressive Bay Area deserves better than the uber conservative papers of BANG and the SF Chronicle. But what can you do, billionaires rule our lives. Thank goodness for the Express.

Re: “Improving Lake Merritt

Unfortunately this Peter Yuan Li is not new to Oakland, he's actually running for mayor. His platform seems to be that Oaklanders are all stupid and he's going to whip us into shape.

Re: “Alcohol and First Fridays

What is the problem that alcohol causes? Does anybody know if the kid that shot the gun last month was drunk? Why is it that everybody freaks out and needs to shut everything down over some shootings like this one or the one near Occupy last year, but the other shootings that happen across the city every day are ignored? Maybe the politicians cynically take advantage of some shootings to push the changes that they want any way.

Re: “Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan Deserves a Mixed Review

I can't believe the "new tactics" are being seen as a success. They repeatedly ran into peaceful crowds and caused chaos and injury, they were very lucky no one got seriously hurt. They were aggressive and provocative, they declared illegal assembly several times, shot tear gas, tased and clubbed people, arrested dozens and they violated everyone's right to demonstrate. If they had stood back and simply guarded against any property damage it would have been a much more peaceful and uneventful day. But what they have figured out is that since a lot of the community has turned against Occupy they now have more of a free hand to try to crush the group, but just because Occupy has lost political support doesn't mean they don't have the right to demonstrate. Police departments, for example, will protect the KKK's right to demonstrate, their job is not to regulate speech but to maintain the peace while protecting people's rights. Their goal on May Day was not keeping the peace, it was to intimidate and terrorize the crowd.

Re: “Out of the Tents and Into the Chambers

MarleenLee, In Wisconsin they let rowdy protesters into the state capital for weeks because they recognize people's rights. But rinky dink Oakland violates our rights almost every day now and it is because of support from authoritarians like you.

It says a lot about you that you maintain a catalog of every incident that Occupy has ever been accused of in the media but you do not seem to be aware of the crimes that OPD has been committing against us. They have arrested dozens of us and the vast majority of the charges have been dropped by the DA because they are flat out trumped up charges. The police have run a viscous campaign against us picking us up off of the streets and torturing us in their custody, but when we go to complain to city hall you don't want to even hear about it because you just want us to disappear. We are not going anywhere, you will be tired of hearing about us years from now, get used to it.
