Re: “Do Disabled Motorists Need Free Parking?

I am a disabled person in a wheelchair. When I am not getting out of the car, my husband does not park in the handicap spots. So while he is in the store I get to watch at least 50% of people parking in the handicap spots literally jump out of their cars and run in to the store. There is alot of abuse out there! It infuriates me! These people should be happy that they can walk. It's pure greed and laziness! What are they teaching their kids? I agree we should pay for parking. If we are parking a vehicle, parking should be paid.

Re: “Soleil’s African Cuisine

I agree with your review. My husband and I went to the Frog and Fiddle. Being a very picky, I apprehensive. I ordered the tilapia with the coconut milk with spinach sauce. It was excellent!!! I can't wait to go back. The staff was wonderful and Chef Soleil came out to see how we were enjoying it. I would give it ten stars!!!

Re: “Damned if She Does, Damned if She Doesn't

Occupy Wall Street was a great idea because the banks are what screwed so many people and still got money from the stimulus funds. Then Occupy Oakland was trying to form and threw up a tent city downtown. Mayor Quan tried to support them by letting them stay. Besides camping in downtown being illegal, damage to businesses, citizens being harassed, business threatening to leave, trash, feces and even the deadly parvo virus being there, it was obvious the tent city should not continue. They were given many notices that they had to leave. Did they go on their own? No, and what did this have to do with the banks? When they taped bills to their mouths and blocked Wells Fargo from doing business, that made so much more sense. So the day was set, Jean went on a business trip that was made at least a month before. While she was gone, all hell broke loose between the police (who did not want to be there) and the occupiers, costing the city enormous amounts of money between the Police and the City Workers that had to clean up Ogawa Plaza. If the Mayor had been in town it wouldn’t have made a difference one way or the other, the end result would have been the same. Then a repeat, more cost of needing Police, more clean-up. Then they decide to shut down the Port twice which hurt the 99% very badly in this struggling economy and during the holidays. Now we needed more Police and on top of that companies are threatening to bypass our port and deliver their goods in L.A. More money lost in our city. NOW Mayor Quan has to hire outside auditors because no one is going to believe either side! Oakland's not hurting enough, so let’s throw in a ridiculous recall election that will cost Oakland 1.5 million to hold. None of this makes any sense! Mayor Quan is one of the hardest working Mayors and no one recalled any of the others!! So any one who signs these ridiculous recall petitions should be involved in the city, in some form or another. Be on one of Mayor Quan's many committees, receive & read her very informative weekly newsletter, have done a ride along to see what our Officers go thru on a daily basis., etc. This whole thing is a pathetic joke and there isn’t a soul that can run against Jean and win. She is the hardest working person that I have ever met, who cares so much about our children, our city and is a walking encyclopedia. Good luck on a recall - your just draining our city of money it doesn’t have and trying to distract Mayor Quan from doing the great job that she can and will do.
Jean was trying to get back the officers that were lost because of the budget and Jean was not the only person on the budget committee. I believe the money used for the Police and damages is the responsibility of OO. And those gangs that shoot our children in broad daylight have been here for many years, and it has only been Jean that went down in those neighborhoods, knocking on doors to unite the neighbors and start taking back the neighborhoods from the gangs.
