Re: “Smart & Final’s Old Oakland Location Closes

Historic buildings can be changed as long as the cost the renovate is more than the cost to rebuild. There is a room for this in the application process.

It's called Economic Hardship where even buildings designated as landmarks can be demolished for something more prosperous. It's true.

Re: “Residents Report Being Evicted from Tuff Shed Camp

Great article Meg. I'm concerned that the sheds don't think of gender issues when housing vulnerable and more vulnerable like women with men. No diff than prisons!

Re: “Prosperity or Displacement?

Great to here from the API community around issues concerning Oakland. There is a great deal of API history in CA, Bay Area, and particularly in Oakland. The fabric and richness of Oakland started on the backs of immigrants...let's preserve and cultivate new legacies bc it can be done.

Re: “Protest Trump's Inauguration in Oakland, But Please Don't Be Violent

Wanted to say something slick and profound but can't come up with anything other than: Stop intentionally fucking up shit in downtown AND Oakland. Many OAKLAND businesses like mine are Owner Operated. It hurts us but the glass, security, insurance, and remediation companies make money when we don't. It takes time to recover after all this. Shit I gotta sale Triple the amount of Vibrators and Dildos to makeup for the proximity of destruction. You can't keep going up and down with momentum like this.

There is no recovery fund set aside by the City. There is nothing but the pumping of your arms to get going again. Feels like you need silicone lube just to feel at ease to do business here.

Re: “Nineteen Business Owners and Experts Discuss How to Sustain a Healthy East Bay Economy for All

I think all of you are correct. I think its truly about highlighting personalities of the business. You have many small and big businesses on Amazon. As for my products, I wouldn't buy online b/c you are void of warranty and true product support given that it is bought on Amazon. There are many things I will get off Amazon as well but sex toys are not one of them.

Many businesses were built on experience and story and EBX does a valiant job of helping our narratives burst through the closing seems in our community. Imagine a world were all business is done online! I can't image no shops or shop owners in our communities. Amazon isn't sending you home with the very product b/c you had a great conversation with your potential customer whom said they had no money for that product. Well, last week, I sent a young woman home with 'The Alchemist'. She said she didn't have any money. I asked when could she bring it back, and she brought the money back. Guess what, that book/experience has more of a chance of doing good in our community than just buying the product from Amazon.

If you are thinking its all about the product, you are sadly mistaken.
