Re: “Why Private Security Patrols Are Not the Answer

We need private patrol to stop the street harassment and kidnapping of women and unless the East Bay Express is going to put an end to the assault on women in our community , then I cant be sympathetic to this type of article. Like have you been to E14th? Smh. But maybe youre right !! Maybe we can all hold hands and sing kumbayah with our neighbors and pray that violence goes away :)

Re: “Oakland May Cut Weed Tax

How about taxing the foreign real estate companies that have swooped in and taken over buildings and apartments that are getting millions of dollars overcharging people every month for rent?

Re: “What's Missing in Oakland's First Cultural Plan in 30 Years?

Nice thought. This is going to sound bitter but its most likely not going to work. The spillover from the tech boom is unlikely to stop anytime soon.

Re: “Homeless Residents Protest Continuing Closure of Lake Merritt Campsites

The SOLUTION to this problem is addressing multiple issues:
1) the astronomical increase in rent due to real estate agents and silicon valley
2) a lack of willingness on the cities part to delegate buildings to house homeless

If there are almost 2000 homeless people why cant the city with its millions of dollars purchase 15-20 apartment buildings to temporarily house them ?

Re: “Homeless Residents Protest Continuing Closure of Lake Merritt Campsites

I dont see how this is a black issue at all. I dont like that homeless people are living at Lake Merritt. Its really dirty and makes me want to avoid every going to the Lake for anything. My friends and I have been harassed by homeless people at the lake and I honestly dont feel safe unless Im carrying a knife or taser.
