Re: “City of Oakland Plans to Ban Homeless from Camping Around Lake Merritt

Too bad the picture didn't show the ever-present mountains of trash these VAGRANTS ALWAYS CREATE. Never fails. Then there's the inevitable fire because of all the trash. We have put dumpsters all through 'our' tent camps but the trash accumulates everywhere nonetheless. And it isn't as though they need the dumpsters - they could put all the trash back in the bags they brought it in and pack the lighter bags back out. But they'll never do that.

Above all, they are NOT homeless - homeless people don't have a place to go. Most of these people have a place to go but many can't qualify for housing because of violent crimes and other histories. All prefer living on the street - living of the 'fat of the land,' i.e., what they find in our yards, garages, homes, cars, and what they steal from stores.

Sanctioned camps are the most effective means to try to entice and encourage them off the streets.
