Re: “Oakland Develops New Approach to Fixing Dangerous Intersections Faster

This looks like a major improvement. I'd love to see something similar done at the mid-block crosswalk on Lake Park Avenue.

Re: “Best Garden Whiz and Butterfly Savior: Victoria 'Tora' Rocha

I second what Mary Ellen said - but more so. A well-deserved tribute indeed.

Re: “Don't Be An Ass On Cinco De Mayo. Eat, Drink, And Resist With 'Dining For Justice.'

In the Grand Lake neighborhood, Grand Lake Kitchen will have a special cocktail list and will donate $2 for each one purchased. At Lin Jia Asian Kitchen, they'll donate $2 when you purchase any of their special menu items and the owner will also match that amount.

Re: “Coal Terminal Developer Suing City of Oakland, Seeking to Overturn Ban on Fossil Fuel Exports

I understand that Phil Tagami had expressed interest in eventually running for Mayor. At this rate, he'd be hard-put to match Trump's 4.6% of the vote.

Re: “Oakland's Trash Program Promotes Waste

The agreement the City Council struck granted Civicorps the contract for collecting restaurant waste. The rationale being that the Oakland-based non-profit would train low-income youth as truck drivers and, in addition, transport the waste to the EBMUD sewage treatment plant where it would be digested and turned into methane which would be used to generate power. Do they have their own rate schedule or does it conform with Waste Management's?

Re: “No, Governor Brown, You Shut Up

I was already greatly disillusioned with Gov. Brown. In the last year or two, he's vetoed two common-sense pieces of legislation. One would have granted business and property owners legal authority to remove collection bins placed on their property after giving the bin operator 10 days notice. The other would have required salvage yards to pay for scrap metals with checks - not cash.

Re: “Oakland Considers Regulating Street Donation Bins, Advocates Call for Ban

If you actually read the petition, perhaps you'd be less inclined to label this issue as "minor". Not when these multimillion dollar operations are bleeding Oakland dry and not giving us anything in return -except, of course, for further complicating the graffiti and illegal dumping.
