This article paints a scary and mostly accurate depiction of the issue and a acute care facility is absolutely needed in West County... one point though... I don't believe gsws, or other life threatening conditions are routinely routed to John Muir via the all-day gridlocked I-80 and CA-4. They are either stabilized locally at (say Kaiser) THEN transported to Muir via the freeway or immediately Life Flighted to Muir or Children's. This of course adds tremendous cost to that response and is not ideal- but of course in an urban environment with the heavy industry, and active fault line, a local, full fledged ER is the best option
