Re: “Swimming in Sex Abuse

Weilgus should resign from USA Swimming and the Organization needs an overhaul. After a year of protest and pressure by a group of women victims USA swimming finally called a hearing about the abuses of Don King (swim coach from Oregon). The hearing was a joke though. 1) The hearing panel members were all lay swim organization volunteers with no expertise on sexual abuse matters 2) Although the victims were female non of the panel members were female. 3) Two of the panel members were coaches (think they might be biased , Huh) 4)One of the panel members immediately bonded with the abuserer because they shared the same birthday. 5)Non of the victims were allowed counsel from their attorneys during the testimony.

The board hearing and investigating allegations of abuse by coaches or officials etc should be completely outside the authority of USA Swimming, independent and with expertise in sexual abuse cases and legal matters. This way USA Swimming cannot make decisions about coaches based on the possibility of damage to their image but on facts.
