couldn't wait to get out of the theater although i left partially blinded. this play was as hackneyed as they come. dabbling in post-modern orientalist BS, it goes nowhere, the characters caricatured, the dialogue (although it was mostly monologue) wildly uneven ("blue as a summer sky"), the geographical references unresearched (We're going to see the Great Buddha of Kamakura in Kyoto). The grand finale painfully tied together all of the insipid points of this thing (If you missed that she ran off with the tattooed rickshaw driver, you must have been asleep; I wish I had been!) Couldn't wait to get out and I won't get supermarket sushi for a month. I'm sworn off.
