Re: “Why Gays Have So Far to Go

I agree. What right did Lorenzo Hoopes have to donate money to a campaign? Not only should he be prevented from getting the political appointment, he should be thrown in jail on hate crime charges.

I recommend publishing the names of every single person who donated any money to this hate-infused attempt at gay genocide and force them to live forever with their shame on public display. Better yet, brand "H8" on their foreheads so that everyone knows they are haters.

But "Name 'em and shame 'em" is too mild, and has not worked. We must not allow the haters to live normal lives, otherwise nothing will ever change. Where is the outrage that erupted in the days immediately after the election? Why did we stop picketing outside the homes of people who voted for 8? Why did we stop smashing their car windows and slashing their tires? Why did we stop the threatening phone calls?

Only by continuous direct actions can we change society. And since the criminals in this case are not politicians but every single citizen who voted to destroy the gay community, the direct actions must be directed at the voters themselves.

If it takes a civil war, so be it. It happened in 1861 as the only way to stop institutional discrimination, and it likely will be necessary again. The only way to bring about the changes we seek is to ignite the spark for another civil war for human freedom.
